Led by a physician, a team of rehabilitation medicine specialists strives to restore their patients to maximum physical function and self-sufficiency. The rehabilitation team may include physical, occupational, and speech and language therapists, neuropsychologists, nurses and other experts in medical rehabilitation. Rooted in the oldest traditions of medicine, medical rehabilitation rose to prominence in the US and other countries after World War II. With growing needs in developing countries, medical rehabilitation now is spreading worldwide.
